Description
Colombia’s Afro-Pacific cultural richness is displayed in the Petronio Alvarez Festival. This festival, which takes place in August, is a window that shows the world the music, gastronomy, crafts and ancestral knowledge of the country’s Afro-descendant culture. More than 3,500 artists are in charge of enlivening the festival playing the instruments inherited from the first settlers of the region. Marimbas, violins, flutes, cununos, drums, bass drums and guasása, sound during the festival along with the “Cantadoras del Pacífico” who come to bring to the city the history and tradition of the culture inherited from the first Africans who set foot on this coast.
