Bahía Málaga is part of the Port of Buenaventura, the most important port in Colombia, with 60% of the merchandise entering and leaving the country, and one of the 10 main ports in Latin America. Located in the western part of the department of Valle del Cauca, between the delta of the San Juan River and the bay of Buenaventura. This part of the Pacific region presents high temperatures (25.7 °C on average), abundant rainfall and high humidity (88%), with an average annual rainfall of 6,918 mm. The bay is surrounded by a dense rainforest that is home to numerous animal species, including 60 species of frogs, 25 species of lizards and 52 species of snakes, and at the aquatic level, several species of corals and octocorals, 8 species of sharks, 22 species of rays and 348 species of bony fish; due to its enormous variety of fauna and flora, the Uramba Bahía Málaga National Natural Park was created around it in 2010.
